Almost a whole week off!

I just got home from Newfoundland.  What a great time!  Amazing crowd and the hypnotized volunteers were funny as can be! I now have a whole week off.  I'm gonna try and make a video of a new stunt.  Really excited about this one...

A new personal record

I just realized that this week I'm doing a new personal best.   I'm performing in all 4 Maritime provinces in one week.  Yep,  I have a show in Nova Scotia (2 actually), one in PEI, one in New Brunswick, and one in Newfoundland. The Newfoundland show I'm particularly excited about.  It's a venue I've never played before and it looks really nice. Holy Heart Theatre is the name of the place and I'm so excited to be performing my theatre show there Saturday night.  Newfoundland crowds are so much fun!

Deck is open!

I set up my deck today.  Rope lights, patio umbrella, the works.  This is my summer office. I study new material out here,  have a place to plug the laptop/ iPad and iPhone in. It's great,  my juggling props are all out here so I can practice when I have a spare moment.  I can make my calls, do my email and my dogs are sitting beside me the whole time. I also get to review my show videos.  I record every show when I'm doing corporate entertainment.  Watching all the shows takes a ton of time,  but it lets me see how I can improve.  Sometimes I even see something that happens by mistake that i can incorporate into the show. Sure hoping this summer is full of great office time!

Juggling

I'm back into juggling a bit.  A new challenge.  Juggling 3, 10lb bowling balls. This may not sound so hard,  but think about it.  You can hardly hold one bowling ball in one hand! The hardest part is starting them.  When I juggle chainsaws I hold one in my leg to start,  this just doesn't work with bowling balls. I'm getting it,  and this may be my next Guinness World Record in juggling.  Hint, hint...

Being a hypnotist

I've been a hypnotist for over 15 years now.  So long that I've heard just about any question anyone could possibly ask on the topic. One question I get all the time is "What's the funniest thing that's ever happened onstage?" I have a hard time answering it.  Funny stuff happens all the time.  But the things that are funny to me are probably not the things that everyone else would find the funniest. The best moments with hypnosis are when you get to see someone you know onstage.  When I hypnotize at a corporate banquet and people get to see someone they know from the office, who can no longer remember how to put their shoes on, that is a very special time. At a high school, you may have the student council president thinking they are an alien…

Year in review

I'm doing my income tax. Yep,  like everyone else I hate it.  But at the same time it allows me to look back on the year and see where I spend my money. A lot goes towards travel to shows. Then there's new props (microphones, speakers, juggling props, magic tricks). And feeding me and the staff.  The food expenses on the road add up after a year. But in the end it's a lot of fun memories of eating in nice restaurants all over the place, meeting a ton of great people across North America, and having a ton of laughs juggling and hypnotizing people. Income tax time actually has an upside...

Bungee Jumping

Today I was in Ottawa, Ontario doing corporate entertainment after dinner at a banquet.  As I arrived in town early I was able to make my way to "The Great Canadian Bungee".  It's the highest bungee jumping site in North America. I'd never jumped before,  and it scared me a lot.  The jump was 200 feet down,  160 back up. Although this may seem to have nothing to do with my job I actually find it does.  In my line of work I need to challenge myself constantly.  By doing something that challenges me it gets my brain on track to accept new challenges. Plus,  well,  it gives me something to discuss after the show when I'm done hypnotizing  hypnotizing people

Magic tricks

I've been on a kick of magic tricks lately.  I still love performing magic,  and as I'm progressing on my work as a professional speaker I find it a natural tie in to practice magic tricks. I get totally lost in this.  I sometimes forget how I enjoy working on small details,  changing things,  and just puttering in general. I dug out a trick I haven't performed in years.  I think I may work on it for a stage show in August.  If I work on it everyday it may just be ready

Hypnotists

I had a great phone call with the manager of another hypnotist today.  The hypnotist goes by the name "Spidey".  His manager Kevin is a great guy.  We got to work together in Moncton last June when Spidey did his magic show as my opening act. Part of our conversation was about how many hypnotists there are these days. When I got into the business a famous hypnotist Reveen was retiring, and there was not anyone else in Eastern Canada doing it. I counted on the phone today and came up with 13 hypnotists that work Eastern Canada.  I'm the only full time one, and most of the others are hobbiests that do it to make a few extra bucks around their day jobs. But it's still amazing to see how many people have gotten into the game, and rewarding…

Show Business

Today I spent the entire day in the office.  Did the part of show business that is,  well, "business". Many performers hate this part of the job.  Contracts, email, promo materials, website, phone calls and chatting on FaceBook.  Well maybe the chatting on Facebook is optional. I really enjoy my office days.  It lets me see what kind of shows I'm doing the most of.  These days I'm busy with corporate entertainment.  I've had years where I did a lot of University Hypnosis shows.  I can see in the near future that I'll be doing a lot of presentations with chainsaw juggling. I can easily get off task when I spend a day in the office.  Most of my best ideas come from looking at the over 2500 shows I've performed and seeing where I'm headed!
